Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat malaria. It is also used to prevent malaria infection in areas or regions where it is known that other medicines eg, chloroquine may not work. Hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medicines known as antimalarials. It works by preventing or treating malaria. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. A key concern for patients with lupus is the risk of infections including serious infections with immunosuppressive drugs and glucocorticoids, since both treatments suppress the immune system 5–7. This concern likely plays a significant role in a patient’s decision regarding whether to take these medications, and how long to continue.

I was taken off the Plaquenil but they were still abnormal. I was taken off everything and tested again, my ALT and AST are normal but my ALP is still elevated. I am now back to just Plaquenil.
